Players gathered on the rooftop courts at Broadway after a social pickleball session
Social pickleball

Social pickleball on a Sydney rooftop

Casual games, rotating partners and a host who keeps it moving — on open-air courts above Broadway. Every level from complete beginner to advanced, and turning up on your own is completely normal.

Why social play

Join a community, not just a session

You do not need a partner, a paddle or any experience. You need about an hour and the app.

Sydney's pickleball community

Play Pickle runs social sessions right across Sydney, and Broadway is the rooftop one. Joining here plugs you into the whole community, not just one venue.

Fun first, all levels welcome

Sessions are graded and a host runs the rotations, so the games stay balanced whether it is your first session or your hundredth.

It all runs through the app

Find a session, tap join, turn up. The free Play Pickle app is where every social session and program is listed and booked.

On an open-air rooftop

Open-air courts above Broadway with the city skyline behind you. Floodlit, so evening sessions run well after dark.

Stop hiring a paddle — get your own

Hiring works for a first hit, but once you are playing regularly it adds up fast — and a paddle you know is worth far more than one you borrow. The Play Pickle shop has paddles, balls and gear delivered across Australia.

Social play questions

Anything else, just ask — we would rather you turned up knowing what to expect.

How do I join a social session at Broadway?

Social and learn-to-play sessions are booked through the Play Pickle app. Download it, create an account, find a Broadway session at your level and tap join. Court hire is booked separately through Clubspark.

I have never played before. Which session do I join?

Start with an Introduction to Pickleball or Learn to Play session. They assume no experience at all — you get the rules and basic gameplay, then you play. Pickleball is the quickest racquet sport to pick up, and most people are rallying in their first few minutes.

When do sessions run?

Session times change, so the app is always the source of truth. Open the Play Pickle app and filter to Broadway to see what is on.

Do I need my own paddle?

Nets are set up and ready. Paddles are available to hire on site if you need one, so you can turn up and play — but if you are playing regularly, your own paddle from the Play Pickle shop is the better move. Our equipment guide covers what to look for.

Can I come with a friend, or do I have to rotate partners?

Bring whoever you like. We do encourage rotating, because it improves your game and it is how you meet people — but tell the host and they will make sure you get a few games together.

What should I wear?

Athletic clothing you can move in and non-marking court shoes with good grip. The courts are open-air, so bring a hat and sunglasses during the day, and layer up when it is cool.

Are there age restrictions?

The minimum age for general social play is 16, unless a younger player is enrolled in an approved junior program, in which case guardian supervision is required. Players should be able to keep up with the level of the session.

What happens if it rains?

The rooftop is open-air, so sessions do not go ahead in wet weather — it keeps everyone safe and protects the courts. Registered players are notified through the Play Pickle app.
